The Science of Experiential Civics

NASBE State Education Standard, September 2025


Pamela Cantor, M.D., co-authored an article in the latest issue of NASBE’s State Education Standard journal, alongside Fernande Raine and Susan Rivers. The piece, The Science of Experiential Civics, explores how young people are wired for civics learning that connects them to their communities, builds agency, and leverages relationships.

This special issue of the State Education Standard focuses on preparing civic-ready students and highlights the urgent need to improve and expand K–12 civics learning nationwide.
