Advancing Artificial Intelligence, Measurement and Assessment System Innovation Summit

Pamela Cantor, M.D., delivers the keynote address on '3D Measurement' and the role of context in unlocking human potential.

Pamela Cantor, M.D. was invited to kick off the Advancing Artificial Intelligence, Measurement and Assessment System Innovation Summit, led by The Study Group, on September 26, 2024 at the Planet Word Museum in Washington, DC. The event gathered leaders from philanthropy, federal policy, education, and workforce sectors to explore high-leverage approaches for data, AI, and measurement system R&D, all aligned with a transformative vision for the future of learning, working, teaching, and leading.

3D Measurement: A New Approach to Understanding Potential

In her keynote address, Dr. Cantor emphasized the importance of "3D Measurement" – a concept and practice she learned and used in medicine that focuses on both the individual and their context.

The Power of Context in Human Performance

According to Dr. Cantor, “Context is the primary driver of human performance and potential and yet we do not measure it. Context–the environments, experiences, and relationships in our lives will have a profound influence on who we become including the expression of our genes.”

“The closer the fit between context and person the greater the capacity to unlock an individual’s potential. Measurement of the fit between person and context amplifies purpose, primes performance, and unlocks human potential. Understanding this fit can open up new possibilities for deeply personalizing education and optimizing performance.”

The summit provided a critical space for deep discussions on how emerging technologies like AI, advanced data analytics, and innovative measurement practices can drive real transformation in education. Dr. Cantor shared, “With today’s advanced technology and scientific understanding, we are living in a time ripe for a scientific revolution—one that will upend everything we know about developing a person’s fullest potential.”

Dr. Cantor also expressed gratitude to Eric Tucker and his team at The Study Group for creating this important platform to explore the future of measurement and AI in education.
