Learning and the Brain Conference Spring 2023

Teaching Social Brains

In the realm of learning, relationships are often described as the “soft stuff” and academics as "the hard stuff." This couldn't be farther from the truth. Why? For starters, brains are electrical structures and their primary energy source is human connection. This keynote talk, given by Pamela Cantor, M.D., translates the neurobiology behind how relationships wire the brain and fuel learning. It reveals the ways trusting relationships trigger the release of a helpful hormone and how that hormone ignites a neurostransmitter that feeds curiosity and exploration. It explores why relationships are key to unlocking potential—the uppermost limits of developmental range—in each and every learner. Visit the conference website here.
